A cure for Chronic Fatigue?

Regular readers of my blog may recall that I have suffered from the condition known as CFS (ME) for the past 19 years. CFS leaves me without enough energy to get me through each day, and in its worst form makes me unable to get out of bed – for weeks, or months at a time.

On the news this morning, I heard about the launch of a large-scale trial for teenagers in the UK, to treat CFS online. It’s estimated that around 2% of UK teenagers suffer from CFS/ME, causing them to miss school, and the condition is currently untreated. A programme in the Netherlands claims success at treating patients, and is being rolled out here in Britain, initially for around a thousand children. Continue reading

The myth of the superfood

What’s this month’s superfood? Soy? Berries? Qinoa? Red wine? Green tea? There’s always a new one.

Dr Susan suggests that the following foods can be energy-draining: red meat, lactose, gluten, chocolate, coffee and alcohol.

Since I read the book, I’ve been carrying out a scientific experiment on myself, to see if these foods really do have an effect.

The Chronic Fatigue Cure

drsusanA while ago I wrote about how I suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME). Since then I have been contacted by many fellow sufferers and that article has become the most popular on my blog.

Recently I was lucky enough to be sent a book to review. It’s called Dr. Susan’s Solutions: The Chronic Fatigue Cure and is written by Dr Susan Lark, MD. Continue reading

Living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – a survival strategy

I had always been a hard worker. When Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) first struck me I was doing a demanding full time job and trying to set up my own company in my spare time. I suppose it was the stress of this that made me so ill. At the time I thought I had meningitis. I thought I was going to die.

After a few weeks of not dying, I realised that life wasn’t going to end. But it wouldn’t ever be the same again. Continue reading
